Following the 2010 Haiti earthquake, his father made the tough decision to send Joe and his sister to live with family in Boston and have a shot at a better life. While Joe didn't speak any English when he arrived, he learned quickly and he has thrived.
This June, Joe not only graduated from high school, he was also his class valedictorian. His parents came for the ceremony, marking the first time he has seen his dad since leaving Haiti. It also marks their first Father’s Day together in 6 years — and they have a lot to celebrate.
Joe has been accepted into Mass Art to study architecture in the fall.
